If your pet has difficulty walking, standing or moving, or is acting strangely or confused, it’s possible that he or she is experiencing some kind of neurological event.
MedVet’s veterinary neurologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of neurologic disorders of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system in small animals.
Whether your pet has a congenital or age-related neurologic disorder, our Neurology team works with other MedVet specialists and your family veterinarian to determine and treat the cause of the illness.
Common causes may include:
- Epilepsy
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Spinal cord injuries
- Vertigo (loss of balance)

What to Expect
Please know that the MedVet Neurology team is committed to providing the best, most appropriate care for your pet in partnership with your family veterinarian.
- Plan to spend about one hour at the first appointment.
- Bring any records or test results from your primary veterinarian.
- Bring all of your pet’s current medications with you to the initial appointment.
- The Neurology team will take a detailed history and make a complete examination of your pet that includes testing neurological function such as spinal and facial reflexes and sensory responses.
- One of our neurologists will discuss test results, treatment options and whether or not additional testing is advised. Additional testing will only be scheduled upon your understanding and agreement.
- You and your primary veterinarian will receive a summary detailing the clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment recommendation(s).
