When scratching the itch isn’t enough

DermatologyFew things are as annoying as a pet that spends a lot of time chewing, itching, licking or scratching. Those behaviors can be symptomatic of a dermatologic disorder that’s not only annoying, but also affecting your pet’s quality of life.

Our veterinary dermatologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of skin and ear diseases in companion animals including:

  • Allergies (93 individual allergens, including Ohio corn, oats, wheat, daisy, sunflower, clover and cotton linters)
  • Ear disease
  • Hair loss
  • Abnormalities of the footpads
  • Autoimmune skin disease
  • Bacterial, fungal or viral infections
  • Diseases of the nails
  • Endocrine (hormone) conditions, including hypothyroidism, hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing’s Disease) and adrenal sex hormone alopecias
  • Parasitic conditions including Demodex, Sarcoptes and Cheyletiella
  • Skin Cancer

The majority of our patients have some form of allergic skin disease characterized by itchy skin and chronic ear infections. Causes include pollens, molds, human and pet dander, dust mites, food and fleas.

MedVet dermatologists work to find the cause of the problem—not just treat the symptoms. And, as with all our specialties, our team works with your family veterinarian to help your pet live well and comfortably.
