William R. Fenner, DVM, DACVIM

William R. FennerWilliam R. Fenner, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology), is a Neurologist at MedVet Columbus and has been on staff since 2004.

Dr. Fenner has the perspective of both an academic and private practice career. Raised in his father’s private, general practice, he gained an early understanding of the importance of listening to the client. Thirty years in teaching and research development showed him the importance of always looking to the future.

Dr. Fenner taught at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was a guest faculty member at Michigan State University and Purdue University Colleges of Veterinary Medicine. He was awarded the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award as well as The Animal Medical Center Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Dr. Fenner’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He’s also the principle editor and a contributor for all three editions of “Quick Reference to Veterinary Practice.”

Dr. Fenner has been invited to lecture nationally and internationally on such veterinary neurology topics as the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and the diagnosis and treatment of encephalitis.

He’s been the principal investigator of several clinical trials, studying both the treatment of epilepsy and the response of the nervous system to inflammation (encephalitis).

In addition to his responsibilities at MedVet, Dr. Fenner is currently the Professional Liaison for the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and serves as the ACVIM’s representative on the American Board of Veterinary Specialties.
