Natalie Tabacca, DVM, MS, DAVCD
Natalie Tabacca, DVM, MS, DAVCD is a dermatologist at MedVet Columbus and has been on staff since 2012. She worked as a veterinary assistant and a student research associate while attending the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Ohio State University, where she also completed her internship. Dr. Tabacca was an associate veterinarian at VCA Westerville East Animal Hospital in Westerville, Ohio for two years prior to her residency. She completed her residency in dermatology at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the Ohio State University concurrently with her master’s degree. After graduation, Dr. Tabacca was an associate veterinarian with a practice limited to dermatology at the VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Tabacca’s published research was the first to describe epithelial migration rates and /or patterns in dogs and the first to describe a technique to mark the canine tympanic membrane with ink drops. The ink drop technique has since been refined for use on the canine tympanic membrane and a range of values for normal canine tympanic membrane epithelial migration have been established and future studies can be performed.
She received the 2011 Research Excellence Award in Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Tabacca also received first place, Residents’ Research Award in Basic Sciences at the North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum in 2011.
Dr. Tabacca strives for excellent communication with her clients and referring veterinarians on the diagnosis and management of the patients skin and/or ear conditions. Her professional interests in dermatology include otitis and otology, allergic dermatitis, and bacterial skin diseases.
