Eric R. Schertel, DVM, PhD, DACVS

Eric R. Schertel, DVM, PhD, DACVS, is a Veterinary Surgery Specialist and MedVet’s Chief Medical Officer. He has been on staff at MedVet since 1999 and serves on the MedVet Board of Directors. He has served as Head of the Department of Surgery for the past 11 years.

Dr. Schertel specializes in soft tissue surgery with a special interest in liver, adrenal, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. His work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals on veterinary surgery, shock and cardiopulmonary physiology.

Dr. Schertel received his PhD in cardiopulmonary physiology in 1987 and moved to Ohio to do his residency in surgery at The Ohio State University. Dr. Schertel joined the faculty of OSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine from 1990 to 1993. He served as Director of Research in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the OSU’s College of Medicine from 1993 to 1999.
