The Clinical Studies Office at MedVet is designed to facilitate completion of high quality clinical trials in client-owned dogs and cats. The Clinical Studies Office strives to aid the advancement of diagnostic and treatment options for veterinary patients while providing state of the art care for clinical trial participants.
Dr. Linda Lehmkuhl, a board certified veterinary cardiologist, and Dr. Matthew Barnhart, a board certified veterinary surgeon, serve as co-directors of the Clinical Studies Office. Both experienced clinicians and experienced clinical trial participants, they bring collective knowledge and expertise in clinical research on diagnostic testing, novel medical therapies, and device development. The Clinical Studies Office Directors work with the Clinical Investigative Teams to insure all aspects of a Clinical Trial at MedVet run seamlessly from study start-up, patient recruitment, data collection, site monitor or regulatory agency visits, to study close-out steps.
MedVet’s clinical investigative teams have successfully completed single center and multi-center clinical trials evaluating treatment of acute and chronic pain, congestive heart failure therapies in dogs and cats, the use of Holter monitor devices, testing of novel chemotherapeutic and radiation sensitizing agents, treatments for endocrine disorders including hyperthyroidism, and the assessment of blood tests for cardiac conditions, platelet problems, and pancreatic disorders.
MedVet’s Clinical Studies Office works closely with both industrial sponsors as well as foundations to insure the highest quality clinical trial can be completed in a timely fashion and in compliance with all standards of current Good Clinical Practice (GCP / VICH GL9) guidelines. Experienced test article administrators are available on-site.
Perhaps MedVet’s greatest strength is the ability to recruit a large number of qualified patients in a short period of time. In addition to the more than 60,000 patients seen annually through the clinic, MedVet has access to a referral network of over 3,000 veterinarians. This large, supportive, referral base values the role clinical trials play in aiding their current and future patients and is readily accessible to our Clinical Investigative Teams.
