Dr. Barnhart was recently quoted in the Wall Street Journal article regarding agility contests and small breeds of dogs.

Like athletes, little dogs do a lot of pivoting and jumping, which can lead to torn ligaments. Veterinarian Matthew Barnhart, of MedVet, in Columbus, Ohio, specializes in orthopedics and has treated sprains and ACL tears related to athletic competitions. "I've seen fractures associated with collisions. Dogs with broken bones or teeth from running into or falling off things or running into each other," he says. Surgery is often warranted, followed by rehabilitative therapy, including aquatic treadmill therapy, weight management and athletic conditioning. - Wall Street Journal
