Ophthalmology Service Provides Free Service Dog Eye Exams at MedVet

“It’s an honor to give back to dogs that help people every day,” says Dr. Terah Webb, the Ophthalmology Department Head at MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Columbus, Ohio. “Whether it’s a search and rescue dog helping a community or a disabled person’s life-line for independence, I love to interact with these dogs. It’s rewarding to detect a potential problem early that may limit their service or their comfort if left untreated.”

The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists® (ACVO®) holds this annual National Service Dog Eye Exam Event to help serve these dogs who selflessly serve the public. In 2010, more than 3,200 service dogs participated in the ACVO®/Merial National Service Dog Eye Exam nationwide and 127 of those service dogs were examined at MedVet Columbus and Cincinnati.
