What to Expect
Please know that the MedVet Internal Medicine team is committed to providing the best, most appropriate care for your pet in partnership with your family veterinarian.
- Many pets can be managed on an outpatient basis while others may need to spend 1 to 2 days in our offices undergoing a comprehensive evaluation.
- Unless otherwise directed, please do not feed your pet after midnight the night before your appointment.
- Bring a urine sample from your pet to your first appointment, if possible.
- Ask your family veterinarian to fax or provide you with prior lab work and reports related to your pet’s problem. (If your pet was seen in our Emergency department, MedVet will transfer the appropriate information to our specialists.)
- At your visit, an MedVet Internal Medicine doctor will examine your pet and review the medical history.
- Most likely, your pet will undergo one or more diagnostic tests.
- One of our internal medicine specialists will talk with you about your pet’s condition and suggest the appropriate course of medical therapy.
- If hospitalization is required, our 24-hour nursing staff will work closely with our specialists to care for your pet.
- You and your primary veterinarian will receive a summary detailing the clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment recommendation(s).
